"Bordeaux 2005 truly has everything … great aromatics, fabulous ripeness, amazing concentration,” says Robert Parker. One of THE great Bordeaux vintages, it’s also become a rare commodity — and that’s just one thing that makes this delicious discovery so special.

Here’s what else you should know: Saint-Émilion is home to some of the finest Bordeaux — and Merlot-rich Haut-Roc Blanquant is the second wine of a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé property, Château Belair. To say that it’s made with premium fruit might be an understatement, given this estate’s extraordinary location — right next door to Château Ausone (for many, the producer of the best wine in Saint-Émilion, that sells for over $3,000 a bottle). And, Château Belair’s modern-day proprietor is none other than Edouard Moueix, who knows a thing or two about great Bordeaux (his family owns legendary Château Pétrus).

Given the last seven years to develop that remarkable complexity that makes top-vintage Bordeaux one of the world’s greatest styles, Haut-Roc Blanquant will reveal why 2005 was an extraordinary year. Look forward to appealing aromas of ripe plum, wild herbs and nutty oak, with an attractive, well-structured palate. Fine-grained tannins support layers of crushed blackberry, raspberry and spice, with a long finish.

Delicious now, this fine red will keep for at least another 10 years. Whenever you choose to enjoy it, decant before serving, to unleash Haut-Roc Blanquant’s full (and captivating) range of aromas and flavors." - Zagat Wine

We both got black cherry out of this one, but either way it was wonderful, very rich and complex.
