Unless I am tasting wines completely blind, without any information about background and price, it is difficult to not combine the qualities of the wine and expectations based on winery, origin, or price. Hamilton Russell has been my favorite South African winery for several years, and I have probably come to expect a certain style and quality. Hence, I thought this Pinot Noir would easily rate a 4, if not a 5.

So why did I only give it 3 stars? Because it is super reserved and the acidity overwhelms the mouthfeel. That was my first impression. I then closed the bottle and set it aside for three days, after which I noted the following:
-A nose of strawberry, spice, rhubarb, and earth.
-Mouthfeel is dominated by marked acidity with moderate alcohol and tannins.
-Lasting finish, moderate body. Elegant in a way that only a Pinot Noir can be.

I think it will develop and change in the bottle, and am looking forward to experience its changes.
