This is the first bottle I have ever tried to do this with. I have never been much of a wine drinker so bear with me on this. It was a youthful wine. The rim was a deep purple. I thought it smelled a bit smokey and earthy. According the web site it is a "black current and cherry aroma." I thought that the taste was rich and harsh at first. It tingled a bit and when you gurgle, it is quite intense. The after taste is quite pleasant. It is also not a very dry wine, at least I don't think so. The web site says it is a "black and red fruit flavours blended with a rich oak and dark chocolate finish." Overall I really enjoyed the wine. It is probably the strongest wine I have ever tasted, but like I said I am just starting to actually take note of things like colour, smell, and taste, and not just how drunk it can get me.
