Cabernet "Merlot 12 Barrels" 2005
Region: Okanagan Valley, Canada
Variety: Cabernet, Merlot
A medium-bodied smoky wine of dark ruby colour with palate pleasing tannins. Black cherry, black currant, anise and black licorice on the nose. Along with the above fruit, the flavors showcase morels, graphite, cedar, saffron and vanilla.
One third of the grapes in this blend are Cabernet Sauvignon from Bruce and Susan Iversen's 12 year old certified organic Oliver vineyard. The other two thirds are equal parts Cab Sauv and Merlot from Jack Braun's Stoney Slopes Vineyard in OK Falls. A little Cabernet Franc found its way in at the end, a final topping for the barrels. Twelve barrels produced, 8 new barrels, 4 second use barrels. Totally unfined and unfiltered.
