The 2004 August Briggs Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is our nineth vintage of this pinot noir since forming our company in 1995. This wine comes from the Hedin vineyard which is planted on rolling hills with gravelly soil types (old river bottom). The site is located southwest of the town of Healdsburg on Westside Road heading out to the coast.
Raspberry & strawberry aromas, combined with a hint of smoky oak and earth. Well balanced with a full finish makes this complex wine one to enjoy with all meals.
The grapes for this wine were picked at about 25 brix, destemed into a small open-topped fermenter, and punched down by hand. After completion of fermentation the wine was drained, pressed, and inoculated with a malo-lactic culture. Completion of ML was allowed while aging in 100% French oak barrels (40% new Latour and DJ, 60% a mix from the previous vintage). Barrel aging lasted 15 months prior to bottling without filtration. 366 cases produced.
