Yellowtail Merlot 2006

Yellowtail's 2006 Merlot is a civilized party red. Aromas of dark berries and vanilla expand into blackberry jam, tart red cherry and hints of raspberry on the palate. This wine introduces itself to you in a genteel manner, with a soft presence, and rounded body. Nonetheless, it develops an assertive tart and tannic presence with blooming notes of spice that crescendo into a dry finish with tantalizing, punchy bursts of black pepper. The aftertaste lingers briefly before making an expeditious, yet memorable departure.

Comment: Three stars. Solid, accessible wine at a good pricepoint. Delicious paired with lasagna.
