Cabernet Franc is an old grape variety from Bordeaux and central France's Loire Valley. Most Cabernet Franc is used in blends with Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot (or both of those varieties) in a classic Bordeaux or Meritage blend. Cabernet Franc is used to enhance the fruit flavor and add a perfumed aroma to the other Bordeaux varieties. For our BOV wines, we look for full body, rich flavors and a smooth palate. Our 2003 fits that bill. It is more full-bodied than typical Cabernet Franc, but shows its heritage with a perfumed nose of black fruits like plum, currant and blackberry with notes of cedar and white pepper. The same impressions carry through in the flavor. The wine has a warm impression and finishes soft and velvety. It has a very long aftertaste, which makes it a great wine for a special meal.
