This nose on this cab begins with soft tones of bing cherry and plum, and a slight hint of eucalyptus. The palate compliments the nose well, and is very soft and clean. I would call this an approachable cab, can be enjoyed now, and a great steal on a Howell Mountain cab for the price!

Highlands Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Beatty Ranch 2002
Region: Howell Mountain
Winery: Highlands
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
This is my fourteenth year working with this fabulous vineyard and it has brought me yet another smile. The 2002 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a benchmark wine from this famous mountain. Beatty Cabernets are always vigorous, sometimes aggressive wines of great power and weight. This wine has berry aromas and flavors of the appellation but even more so, a true terroir that is unmistakable from this vineyard. Very similar in structure to the 2001 vintage, this wine will be showy in just 4-6 years from now with a long life beyond that.
The wine is made from mountain-grown fruit so nature intensifies the grape’s flavors. The wine is made so the fruit flavors come through and the tannins are softer. This makes for a very approachable wine that requires little or no aging yet will age nicely for several years gaining even more complexity.
