WINEMAKER’S RESERVECrafted from small lots in Friends & Family quantities, these are special wines madewith the finest grapes and a fair amount of personal passion. Available only to WineClub members and at the Winery’s Reserve Tasting Room, Winemaker’s Reserveexplores unique varietals, growing regions and styles.Enjoy the journey!MENDOCINO ZINFANDELVINTAGE 2002WINEMAKER NANCY WALKERThis zinfandel comes from Mendocino’s Redwood Valley at theBrown Vineyard, on vines averaging 25 years (young for zinfandel, relatively speaking) offering an interesting contrast to the old vineZin from our Leroy Chase Vineyard which is also part of this specialWinemaker’s Reserve series. While the Chase Zin was aged inAmerican Oak for an extended period, I used newer French Oak forthis wine, with a much shorter aging regimen. When you firstapproach the wine, it resembles the Chase Vineyard Zin, with a deepgarnet color with classic zinfandel notes of spice, ripe plum andcinnamon on the nose. As you taste, you’ll begin to see differencesas a more predominant plum, tobacco and raisin flavor offers somedistinction, topped with vanilla. Try them both and discover howdifferent one varietal can be, even when grown in the sameappellation.BY THE NUMBERSVARIETAL COMPONENTfrom Mendocino County: 100% ZinfandelAGINGoak barrels (40% new, 20% used onevintage, 40% neutral): Aged for 15 months in FrenchALCOHOL: 15.0%TOTAL ACIDITY: 0.60/100mlpH: 3.86BRIX AT HARVESTLimited Release of 150 cases for WineClub members: 24.5°
