TASTING NOTES:
Laurie chose to use a combination of whole-berry and whole-cluster (carbonic) fermentations to accentuate the forward fruit aromas and flavors. Gentle punching down of the caps preserved the Pinot’s brightness and extracted color, aromas and flavors without compromising the varietal’s silky texture. After pressing, the wine was quickly put into seasoned small Burgundian oak barrels (32 percent new) and aged for ten months. The wine has a dark ruby-garnet color with cherry, strawberry, sweet orange rind, old rose and spice aromas that lead into a lush-fruit mouth of sweet red cherries, sweet spice and silky tannins.
REVIEWS:
A Name to Look For Very Good: Best of Tasting It was rich and fruity, with a nice undertone of rich earth and all sorts of complex tastes. It’s still young, but it’s already quite seductive. The Wall Street Journal, (Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher) January 28, 2005
Recommended Medium-light ruby; pleasant, clean, floral, slightly stemmy, cherry fruit aroma with hints of sage; medium-full body; tight, herbal, cherry fruit flavors with modest depth; medium to medium-full tannin; slightly tart finish; slightly lingering aftertaste. Easy to drink now. California Grapevine, April/May 2005
