Color: Dark garnet
Nose: Lots of black and blue fruit and some tannins are detectable. Very good.
Palate: One of the few 100% Merlot's that I've liked. This is a very good wine, filled with a lot of fruit from the nose, but also some cherry at the end and a structure that really can stand up to the fruit, particularly the acidity from the cooler region of Carneros. I loved this wine and it was probably my father's favorite of the trip, as well.

St. Clement Abbott's Vineyard Estate Merlot 2003
Region: Carneros, Napa Valley, California
Winery: St. Clement Vineyards
Variety: Merlot
Abbott Williams – colorful entrepreneur, raconteur, inventor, Wyoming cowboy, casanova –and a pioneer grape-grower in Napa Valley’s Los Carneros region. His creative vision holds the key to the success of St. Clement Abbott’s Vineyard, whose high pH levels and rocky clay soils enable Merlot to express its velvet charm. The Abbott’s Vineyard Merlot fills the glass with blackberries and cherries. It is a wine of great intensity and romance, not unlike the founder of Abbott’s Vineyard.
