Palate: Interesting...I'm having some more, now, after dinner and there definitely is a lot more tannic structure than I originally thought. Could almost wait a year, at least, before tackling this wine. Much more black fruit is coming out, as well, now that the wine has been decanted over an hour. Based on the taste profile, this is mainly a Syrah-based blend. But that is a guess, I don't have the bottle any longer.

Ca'del Solo Big House Red 2005
Region: California
Winery: Ca'del Solo
Variety: Red Blend
Rating: 3
Color: medium-dark ruby
Nose: Smells of dark fruit with some slight oak notes. Slightly green note at start fades into nicer licorice and blackberry notes.
Palate: Good value buy, as always. Bonny Doon sold off the Ca'del Solo line along with the Cardinal Zin label to downsize and get some capital for new projects. This doesn't seem to have altered the value of this wine (although they might still have been the ones to vint this wine). Good dark fruit from this unusual blend of usually 7-ish different varietals. That green note threatens at the start of the palate, as well, but disappears leaving a nice round finish with some structure but no meaty tannins. A great quaffer.
