"Supposedly, this Bordeaux grape is becoming “Virginia’s Red”. 81% Cabernet Franc, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Aged in 50% American and 50% French Oak, giving it more of a pungent nose than the 100% oak/nose of Tarara's Merlot. It is well balanced and more robust than the 2004 Merlot (which was softer and drier) and more impressive than the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2003 Merlot was a Silver Medal Winner as was the 2005 Cabernet Franc." -www.wineaccess.com

No formal note, it's been a few months, but this is a beefy, robust, very dry red. It contains some of the remarkable cherry bouquet that characterizes the merlot, but here it is muted among the more subtle flavors of berry and others that I no longer remember. This is a true steakhouse wine which will hold its own against a bold entree.

Comment: 2.5 stars (rounded to 3) for a red that is probably the second best non-reserve 2007 offering from this vineyard, behind the merlot.
