Despite the fact that this wine comes from a difficult-to-pronounce, unheard of grape (Fer Servadou) and a completely backwater region for wine production (Marcillac) in France, this is my favortie easy drinking red right now for everyday consumption. The domaine has 21 hectares of terraced vines in the village of Clairvaux d'Aveyron. Pretty raspberry flavors give way to a spicy finish and soft, but present tannins.

It is a very supple, mid-weight wine, with raspberry, blackberry fruit and metal on the finish. An especially versatile food wine. For drinking now to 2008.

Domain de Laurens Marcillac 2005
Region: France, Southwest France
Winery: Domain de Laurens
Variety:
100% Mansois. Deep and saturated purple color. Clear and direct aromas of crushed berries, sap, and wood smoke (not from oak barrels!). The wine is medium in body, and very smooth, with "sweet" flavors of brown spices and plum jam.
