This wine is quite a bit rounder, though no less rich potent, than its Italian analog. While the Italian version was and is quite smoky, almost tar-like, there is a stronger impression of berry-like fruit here, along with a distinct and unusual suggestion of dill. Expecting the often painful, phenolic sucker punch delivered by many aglianicos, one might mistake the rich, anodyne suppleness of this wine for ephemerality. On the contrary, we expect this wine to evolve and improve for several years, though it can easily be enjoyed on the near horizon. - Bonny Doon Website
