Château Verdignan is a large Cru Bourgeois property located just north of the village of St. Seurin-de-Cadourne in the Haut-Médoc. In 1972 Verdignan was acquired by Jean Miaihle and Jacques Merlaut, and 4 years later, Jacques sold his share to Jean Miailhe, who became the sole proprietor. It is now run by Jean,s son, Eric.
Verdignan consists of 90 hectares of vineyards, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (45%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The grapes are fermented in temperature- controlled stainless steel tanks and the wine is then matured in oak barriques (33% new) for 12 months.

Verdignan's wines have improved significantly since Jean Miailhe took over and now they are amongst the best in the appellation. They are typically deeply coloured and display good levels of ripe black and red fruits with hints of spice and cedar. They have good medium-term ageing potential and remain very fairly priced.


Cru Bourgeois
A classification first drawn up in 1932 which comprises approximately 150 Médoc Châteaux. Quality is variable, with some Châteaux producing wine of Grand Cru Classé quality, while others produce wines of little merit. Out-performing Cru Bourgeois properties include: Château Beaumont, Château Poujeaux, Château Phélan Ségur.
