Jun. 7, 2007	Chateau Franc Chinon 2006 Chateau Franc Chinon 2006 Region: Loire Valley, France > Winery: Chateau Franc Variety: Chinon Upon the first smell of this wine, my friend, who is wine lover and always uses correct vocabulary when describing flavors, said "this smells like cow sh*t"). A wine that must be experienced for its cerebral aromas alone. Jun. 2, 2007	Domaine La Tour Vieille "La Pinede" Carignan 2004 Domaine La Tour Vieille "La Pinede" Carignan 2004 Region: France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Collioure > Winery: Domaine La Tour Vieille Variety: Carignan Pete had a glass at Salt House n the glass this youngster displayed a dense, dark purple hue. On the nose this blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Carignan lead with butterscotch and stawberries, followed by cocoa, cedar, undergrowth, and wet fur, also showing a minty/nail polish remover finish. Very nice, very interesting. On the palate this dry, full-bodied red was very smooth and balanced. Inky, with chocolatey strawberries that concealed firm tannins, La Pinede had mild acidity and a short finish indicating that this wine is ready for drinking. This is a big, meaty wine from France?s hot south but it shows a remarkable subtlety and depth for such a reasonable price.
