Upon the first smell of this wine, my friend, who is wine lover and always uses correct vocabulary when describing flavors, said "this smells like cow sh*t"). And indeed it did. Fortunately, it tasted much better than I presume manure tastes, but it was still a bit too savory and meaty fo rme. - 06/07/2007

A truly rare wine made from Cividin, a grape from the region of Friuli resurrected by Emilio Bulfon. A wine that must be experienced for its cerebral aromas alone. Ever-changing aromas of soft mineral, lavender and pear give way to a light-bodied palate of pear and apple fruit that would be perfect with a summer fruit salad. - Mike Tesarek, Wine Dept. Head, Highland Park - 06/02/2007

n the glass this youngster displayed a dense, dark purple hue. On the nose this blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Carignan lead with butterscotch and stawberries, followed by cocoa, cedar, undergrowth, and wet fur, also showing a minty/nail polish remover finish. Very nice, very interesting. On the palate this dry, full-bodied red was very smooth and balanced. Inky, with chocolatey strawberries that concealed firm tannins, La Pinede had mild acidity and a short finish indicating that this wine is ready for drinking. A bit heavy on the alcohol, and a bit too much for the pasta in a goat cheese rose sauce, I would suggest this wine for sipping all by itself, or with some lamb off the grill. - 06/02/2007

Forbes.com:

The Kreydenweiss family has been in the wine business for over 350 years, and the vines that produce this delicious wine are up to 70 years old. This is a big, meaty wine from France?s hot south but it shows a remarkable subtlety and depth for such a reasonable price. If the Pinots we suggest work well with lighter dishes, the soft tannins, ripe fruit flavors and deep earthiness tinged with spice make this the perfect inexpensive, full-bodied red to go with steak, venison and other hearty meat dishes. - 11/22/2006

Forbes.com:

New Zealand burst into the wine world?s consciousness a few years ago on the strength of its unique Sauvignon Blancs. But lately, savvy sippers have become aware that they are also producing some lovely Pinots, and at reasonable prices. This is a fine example--packed with fine, fresh red-berry fruits and a good food-friendly acidity, it is the perfect antidote to the all-too-common jammy California versions of this varietal. - 11/22/2006
