This amarone is remarkably rich and balanced. We bought it at the winery for 60 euros, but typical NYC prices are $150-195. See my article at http://tdh46.typepad.com/mondosapore/2006/08/amarone_like_yo.html
for all the details. Great stuff if you have the moolah. - 12/21/2006

I first had this beautiful and unique wine last March. Rich, almost Sherry-like with its earthy flavors, this is like no Chardonnay you have ever had. See the complete article here:

I will add that every one of Puffeney's wines, from the seeming backwater of the Juras region of France, is strikingly distinctive, powerful, yet oddly refined at the same time. They don't cost a lot because I think they are not to the international taste, the whites being a bit oxidized. I happen to love that old-fashioned aspect of "the Pope of the Arbois'" wines, which are imported by the inimitable Mad Rose Group. His wine made of the melon queue variety is luscious and more approachable, I think. - 12/21/2006

The price is actually 20 euros (at the winery), which the program did not allow to display. If available in the US, it might cost about $60-75 retail. (I'm guessing.) I believe that it will become available here in the next year or so. It is classified as a supertuscan by some, which is due more to its IGT status than some obnoxious overly-fruited, too oaky concoction.

I first tasted this wine at a tasting in NYC last January and visited the winery in August 2006. I have written of it several times on mondosapore.com, always with great praise for the wine itself and for the obvious talent of the winemaker, Paolo Caciorgna, and the agronomist, Lorenzo Bernini.

Contact me for more info about this and the rest of the Fattoria Le Fonti lineup, especially their sensational vinsanto.

No, I'm not on their payroll, just a big fan. - 12/21/2006
