Deep violet color. Dense blackberry, creme de cassis, cherry preserves, pipe tobacco, vanilla and baking spices on the nose. This has greater elegance than the more expensive Governor, and the fruit speaks more clearly. Sweet dark berry and cherry flavors are lifted by fresh but gentle acids, and the soft tannins harmonize nicely with the fruit. Finishes with an impressively pure blackberry flavor and a tangy, refreshing note of cracked pepper. Sure, there's oak, but it's there as a sweetening element, allowing the bright fruit to shine. A perennial favourite with Wine Spectator (the 2004 vintage earned 90 points!), this robust Cab offers solid value. This powerhouse is packed with red currant, cassis, earth, sage, smoke and cedar aromas and flavours. It's dry, with a plush mouth-filling texture leading to ripe tannins on the lingering finish. Enjoy with bison steaks, lamb chops or rare roast beef. - 12/18/2007

Peter Lehmann's wines are among our favourites. The Futures Shiraz is typically generous and likeable, and there's a finesse that's lacking in the brawnier Barossa Shirazes. Ripe fruit and subtle oak are interwoven seamlessly, and it has tons of flavour and lovely smooth texture. Score - ***** (out of 5). (Cuisine NZ, July 2006)

A ripe, fruity red, with black currant, damson and hints of coconut and chocolate. Very powerful, with a silky medium body and a fruity, chocolate-coated finish. Needs time. Best after 2007. 16,665 cases made. –JS
