Rob, Joe, Liz and I split a case of this. Joe thinks the tannins are harsh and that after a few years of cellaring, this will be good. Rob likes it now... Chateau Vieux Lapeyre, St.-Emilion, 2005 ($17.99) - From a relatively cool part of Bordeaux, this 25-acre property on clay and limestone soil yielded 3200 cases of wine from 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc. A combination of barrique and large vats were used for the 12-month aging process before bottling. Age 1-2 years.
The great 2005 Saint Emilion has arrived. This very well extracted wine is showing great concentration of red berries and fresh figs. This merlot based red should be shared with your favorite companion.

The french guy at Costco sold me on this one. He said it was great value for Stags Leap. He was right. This is an awesome Napa cab for the price. I am going to lay it down until at least 2012, just to see if he was right!

Not very complex. Ok. Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy- This Barbaresco is modern-styled, and possesses excellent fruit and a medium to full-bodied personality. It offers an intriguing perfume of vanilla, cherries, tar, and spice box. Lots of ripe plum and toasted oak characters follow through on the finish. {Intense, Cherry, Spice, Medium-bodied} - 06/25/2008

Goes for the gusto, with a very ambitious helping of bacony toast to go with its layers of fig, plum and currant fruit. Shows licorice, loam and spice on the thickly textured finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. Best from 2007 through 2009. 1,000 cases imported. –JM - 06/25/2008
Superb. We drank this at the 8/8/08 marketing dinner at Heirlooms Bistro. Smooth and well balanced. If you have the chance, pick up a few bottles. - 08/09/2008

Bacon and leather but not very smooth. I wouldn't buy this one again. Artardi, Rioja, Spain
We have brought this wine in from our fanatical Rioja producer, Artard,i and its a beauty. From 70 year grenache old vines made by Artardi's brilliant winemaker, Juan Carlos Lopez de la Calle. "Zesty redcurrant, strawberry, cranberry on the nose, with notes of dusty minerals and white pepper adding interest. Tangy and energetic on the palate, the red fruit flavours sharply etched and pure. Firming juicy acids help to carry the strawberry tone through a spicy, long finish. As in most recent vintages, an outstanding bargain. 90/100." S.Tanzer. From the Navarra region in Spain, which is south of Rioja ( Central Northern Spain. ) - 06/25/2008

Offers blackberry and light coffee on the nose. Medium-bodied, with medium tannins and a delicate finish. A pleasant red. For early drinking. Best after 2008. –JS - 04/13/2008

Jill picked this one out because the tag said vanilla and cherry. She like it a lot. The first red wine she has ever picked! It also has a neat glass cork.

Not the best Malbec, but good for the price. Should be good with BBQ. Good solid core of raspberry fruit, along with licorice and sweet toast notes on the juicy finish. Drink now. 15,000 cases imported. –JM - 04/05/2008
More like Cabernet than Malbec, with dark, muscular currant, blackberry and coffee notes, followed by a loamy hint on the plush finish. Drink now through 2008. 6,000 cases made. –JM - 04/05/2008

Semillon is the workhorse variety, not only for the Barossa but for Australia. It never
ceases to amaze us how many wineries balk at labelling a wine Semillon, and prefer
to call it “Classic Dry White” or something to that effect. The ultimate result is a
cepage that is a refugee, in exile in the white wine market that it essentially built. It
will have its day in the sun again, and all the Viogniers, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon
Blancs will bow at its feet once more.
Kaesler Semillon reflects some of Reid Bosward’s winemaking past. He cut his teeth at
Tyrrells, had a stint in the Graves, and then finally settled in the Barossa. The Hunter
teaches you about acid, balance and respect for its more subtle characteristics, not to
mention its ability to age. Graves teaches you how too work a style, literally adding
the wine makers spin. The Barossa offers an opportunity that allows one to knits these
lessons together, and come up with a style that is tasty when young, but will also offer
some interest as it ages.
The 2005 harvest was left to hang a little longer than normal, with that we have
crafted a style that is a little more forward and rich than usual. That said it still has a
good 10 years if your keen.
Colour: lean with a lovely green edge and centre
Nose: Leaves, green apples, and little bit of asparagus and green capsicum. Quite
forward for our style.
Palate: Picked slightly riper than usual, the alcohol is higher resulting in a more
forward, “easier to drink when young” kind of style. It should still age reasonably well
in the medium term (5-8 years).
Notes: Semillon is the second most widely planted variety in Australia, it has the
highest average vine age and is planted in some of the more diverse corners and wine
regions. It makes our longest lasing wines, and internationally is the most coveted of
all our white wines by overseas wine critics, yes even before Chardonnay and Riesling.
Age of vines: Estate plantings established in 1961
Alc: 13.0%
TA: 5.80 g/1
pH: 3.31 - 04/05/2008
