Leone d'Almerita IGT Sicilia
Intense straw yellow in color with green hues, Leone offers a lovely, aromatic bouquet of pink grapefruit, apple, white peach, banana and pineapple. Fruity with balanced acidity, Leone is best enjoyed well chilled with antipasti, fried calamari, spaghetti with clams, roasted white meats, and vegetables. Also pairs nicely with Thai cuisine.
Made from 85% Catarratto and 15% Chardonnay
First vintage bottled in 1998, 260,000 bottles produced annually.
Production area: Various estate vineyards, located 1,475 -2,300 ft. above sea level, with varied exposure and a calcareous clay soil composition
Vineyard characteristics: 74 acres planted in 1979-1984 with a density of 1,620 vines per acre. The vines are planted in the Guyot and spur pruned cordon method and yield 2 tons per acre.
The harvest was carried out in September/October
