maybe a little better than 3 stars |
|

| Tasting Notes & Comments |
I might be a little harsh giving this one 3 stars, but I'm not sure it's worth 4. Full bodied, bold Tuscan chianti. I have a high standard for Tuscan wines, and this one is average. Worth buying again, albeit a little bit pricey for the quality. - 04/16/2008

Passable for $11 per magnum, but not even quite as "not bad but not good either" as its cabsauv brethren. Box wine in a bottle, with a little less flavor. Tastes a little bit like Pez, but not in a good way. - 04/16/2008

Gift; good southern french wine |
|
|||
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Reminiscent of the many nameless house wines I've sampled in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, this one tastes like a bordeaux but is much drier. I've often believed that wines travel poorly over oceans, so this probably gets 5 stars when drunk at the source. - 04/06/2008

"Made with organically grown grapes" |
|
|||
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Maybe it's because I was skeptical of the "made with organically grown grapes" ploy on the label, or maybe it's because the Bin 555 lowered my palate's standards prior to drinking this one, but I was very impressed with it, even at the $15 price point. It's not a 5-star $15 wine, but it's close. Tastes more like a dry, yet savory valpolicella. Yumminess for hippies. - 03/20/2008

very tart with liqueur like flavors and very harsh. This here's a sippin' wine, which ain't really my style unless it's got scotchy qualities. More like sucking on a bottle of Grape Pucker. |

The Vin de Pays d'Oc seemed surprisingly high quality at $6-7, but the second bottle was not as impressive as the first. This could indicate consistency problems, or maybe I was influenced by my low expectations. Mid-grade for now, and will go up or down depending on the next bottle. - 03/18/2008

Ok cabernet sauvignon that attempts to be dry and aspires to be better, but is just too acrid in the end. - 03/18/2008

Can't complain for $11 magnum |
|

| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Serviceable $11 magnum of wine that gets 3 stars because it didn't make me barf at that price-per-ounce. Don't expect it to be too complex. Better than jungle juice. - 03/18/2008

I wrote "spritely and citrusy" as though that would remind me what this wine actually tasted like. I had it with an above average Asian fusion sushi-like dinner at the Mandarin Hotel in DC before catching the tail end of an awesome set by bitchin' DC Party Band Nation (http://elanartists.com/dancebands/nation.htm |

"Bring the monkey to the toilet with Papio!" |
|
|||
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
The motto on the side of this bottle actually reads, "Bring the monkey to the party with Papio!" I am not kidding. Of course, this is the main reason I dropped a Lincoln on this bottle, but that was still not enough to keep me from dumping it out after letting half the bottle sit for a day. Bland, fishy and mostly awful at the first taste, this wine actually gets slightly better if you leave it out at room temperature for a night, sort of like how dog poop gets better as the stink dissipates. - 03/18/2008

Static tasting pinot, definitely not worth the restaurant price I paid for it, and barely worth the $10-15 or so it would probably cost at the store. Feh, unimpressive... - 03/18/2008

Cheesy |

| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Supposedly blackberryey and cherryey, this wine is smokier than advertised. Cabsauv grapes witha smoky accent. Yes, whenever someone says, "a-huhr, want some cheese with that wine?" they are talking about this wine. Mostly because they problably can't afford anything better. Fucking ingrates. - 03/18/2008

Average, uninspiring Shiraz that tastes like it should cost $6-7. Spent $9 on it not just because I live in lavish Washington, D.C., but also because the dollar sucks right now. So, in short, you will never get just one bottle of this $6 wine for $6. - 03/18/2008

unassuming white, very mild flavor, no character. Drink if you don't like whites. I am not a big white fan, but I still like a little flavor. - 03/18/2008

A sucker for Lebanese wines in middle eastern restaurants, I just had to try this one with the kibbeh nayeh (raw minced lamb) and darling, let me just say, it was deLISH. It has a dry, spicy, earthy flavor with a pomegranate smell. |
