recommended as river road alternative, ok, but not a real replacement. |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Bitter and average tasting cabsav. Not usually a fan of Chileans, but this is ok. I took this on a recommendation as a replacement for the River Road organic CS, which was out of stock, but it is not as good. The River Road was so good that I "forgot" to write a review of it. So next time it's in stock, you'll see a 5-star review. - 12/25/2008

very smooth red wine, abt $30 at corridor, great with a filet. |

| Tasting Notes & Comments |
We had a bottle of this with some filets that I grilled for Xmas Eve and it went exceedingly well. Mild tobacco and blackberry that were incredibly subtle and level throughout the drinking experience. If someone were to make wine that tastes the way that Dove Chocolate's marketing would have you believe their chocolate tastes like, then this would be it. - 12/25/2008

too tart sushi wine at Oya |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Though the menu said this wine would work with the sushi, I found the Amity Pinot Blanc to be better. This one is fruitier, with apple, citrus, and handbanana flavors, like chardonnay light. - 12/25/2008

Oya DC mild flavor w/ sushi |

| Tasting Notes & Comments |
I am a red wine drinker and rarely dabble in whites. But when I do have a white, I'm rather picky. I'm looking for something along the lines of the Ace Pear Cider of wines. This stuff has a peary flavor and goes great with sushi. A little TOO mild to be a 5 star, but very nice overall. Would definitely drown my sorrows in several bottles of this, with no remorse. - 12/25/2008

unfiltered, cherry fruity, chocolate cake |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
This might have been the first time I have ever tried a wine that boasted "unfiltered" on the front of the bottle. I've had many such beers, of course. This has a cherry front, with a chocolate cake flavored finish, along with a dry tanniny flavor. I like it, would like to try more. If you think I just made all that stuff up, you're right. You try the wine and tell me I'm wrong. - 12/25/2008

| Tasting Notes & Comments |
If I were going to take the red-headed esurance.com cartoon chick on a date -- and let's face it, we all want to -- then this is the wine I'd order to try and impress her. Need I say more? Not bad, but not the best, and we already know from the commercials that she's kinda easy anyway. - 12/25/2008

| Dec. 25, 2008 | Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 |
| Personal Notes |
strong berry smell, tarter than rosemount (also mondavi) |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Rosemount is supposed to be the Busch beer of Mondavi, but this stuff which actually bears the Mondavi name is actually tarter and more acidic than the RM merlot. Ok for the $9 sale price, but not great. Kinda like Budweiser Select on sale for $5 a sixer. - 12/25/2008

gruyere smell??? unripened merlot taste |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
This might be one of those rare occasions when I can actually appreciate all the "peaking" shenanigans that prototypical wine snobs often discuss. This stuff actually had a semi-stinky gruyere cheese smell and the grapiness was unrefined, but tasted like it could get better over time. Do you like how I used the expert wine terminology, "grapiness?" - 12/25/2008

Tart, acidic aftertaste, but otherwise mellow flavor and an ok deal for the price. Run-of-the-mill. - 12/25/2008

Leathery and Passable. Cheap merlot, around $7 per bottle and usually won't make you sick. :) - 12/25/2008

also w/ Brazilian dinner, can get better for $140/magnum |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Not the best merlot you can get for under $200/magnum in a restaurant, but not sickening either.... OR, is it? The second half of my Brazilian adventure, this one is best described as fruitier than average but otherwise average tasting, for a merlot. - 12/25/2008

Oaky full-bodied w/ brazilian dinner |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
This merlot has a full-bodied, oaky flavor, and is actually a decent value at the price -- probably $12 in a store or $60 in a restaurant. However, I cannot give it high marks because I *did* fall ill after only a few drinks and a few courses of our Brazilian dinner. Then I went back to my hotel room and saw the Penguins playing in the Stanley Cup Finals, which made me hurl all over the place. - 12/25/2008

apply smoky, "3 stars at best" $250 magnum. |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Any time I pay $250 for a magnum, it had better come with a sexy mexican maid and an RU486 pill. I kid, I kid. This overpriced wine tasted almost watered down, although it did have a charming smoky apple flavor. Almost like an overdone microbrew, or fruity rauchbock, in the parlance of our [beer] time. My ignorant ass must have missed all the complexities that I paid for, or perhaps my expectations were too high. (Or maybe I should stop drinking wine with my ass -- there, I said it for you.) - 12/25/2008

dinner in Rhode Island - like a lighter dryer kj |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
At $120/bottle with dinner, you'd think I could keep from spilling some of this tastiness on my client's nice white shirt as I poured into the decanter. THINK AGAIN!! Nevertheless, we were impressed with the light, dry flavor of this popular wine. In fact, I'd call it a lighter, drier KJ cabsav, which in my book is primo. BTW, the client is ok, although I never remembered to buy him the new shirt, as promised.... hmmmm, we'll just forget I mentioned that. - 12/25/2008

| Personal Notes |
decent tanniny zinfandel |
| Tasting Notes & Comments |
Advertised for around $18/bottle, I might have to try some of this again. Only had one glass at dinner somewhere in the midwest. But it was a nice zin with conspicuously protruding tannins, as advertised, and bulging spices just ready to erupt into your sensually parted, nubile lips. - 12/25/2008
