From the Vine to the GlassMorton’s and Riedel have teamed up to offer a unique experience. The steakhouse was nice enough to offer Kim and I complimentary tickets to their “from the vine to the glass” event at their King of Prussia, PA restaurant next Monday. Since Kim is abstaining from alcohol while nurturing our baby in her belly, I’ll be going to the event with Anthony. He’s not as cute, but is a one of a kind wine lover and will enjoy the event.

The event will be featuring wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle, which has me excited. I’ve enjoyed some of their wines in the past, but never logged them. So I’m excited about the opportunity to fill this whole in my wine log.

Of course we’ll be using Riedel glasses meant to bring out the best of the particular varietals we’ll be drinking. I’ve researched and written about wine glasses in the past, but never had the kind of side-by-side taste comparison we’ll be having on Monday. I’ll let you know if I am sold on the Riedel glasses. Kim and I passed on getting a set after our wedding. In any case, I will at least be walking away with the 4-piece set (valued at $60) that Morton’s is giving away as parting gifts for the event.

So if you were looking into these glasses already, at $70 per guest this event at Morton’s is a good opportunity to have a good time and get something you would have bought anyway. If you live near King of Prussia, PA, let me know that you’ll be there. Otherwise, Morton’s across the country are hosting the same event on different days.

Hi there Jason! So how was the event?? I’m excited to hear about how the varietally-designed glasses affected the tasting. I think you know that I’m absolutely obsessed with Riedel crystal and I have full sets of every glass in their O series for my various home and external tasting event use. I’ll have to look for this event when it hits over here at the Morton’s in the Bay Area!

Ward, it was great. See Anthony’s writeup on the blog.

I am a new convert to the Riedel glasses. I can’t believe that I used to run tasting using plastic cups. I wouldn’t do that even in a pinch now.

The two biggest difference that I noticed were (1) how the glass facilitated smelling the wine and (2) how much of a difference there is between the front and finish tastes when the wine hits the front of your tongue vs. going straight to the back of your tongue.

I thought you might have some of the glasses. It’s a little sad cause I was talking with one of the distributes about how WineLog could work with Riedel, and I brought up how we have a blogger on the west coast who could use some samples. There still may be a chance to get you some of the newer stuff.

I caught Anthony’s writeup, good stuff! I commented how I need to try and look this event up when it comes to San Jose in November, the closest participating Morton’s.
I had a great convo with the West Coast Riedel rep at the K&L Bordeaux tasting earlier this year, but our contact kind of fizzled after that, too. I need to push a little harder next time I run into them!

Sorry I missed it, sounds like it was a great event.
