When we announced that we were going to be at the Virginia Wine Festival, our very own Dezel (blogs, winelog) recommended that we be sure to make a stop at the Corcoran Vineyards booth.
Dezel said that Corcoran was a “young winery, but producing some pretty tight reds”. I don’t have great notes, but I remember liking what I tasted. The star of the show however was a white, the 2005 Corcoran Viognier which got a 5-rating out of me and a 4 from Kim.
It may have been the fact that everyone at the booth was busy ranting on about how great the Viognier was as we approached, but I like to think that I was able to put that behind me and make an unbiased judgment. We brought a bottle of the Viognier home with us, and haven’t drunk it yet. So we’ll get a chance to reassess.
We probably would have picked up a few of the reds too if we hadn’t already blown our budget on the wineries we visited earlier in the day. To check out some of the other Corcoran wines, follow this link to view Corcoran Vineyards Wines at WineLog.net.
More about the Winery
Corcoran Vineyard rests in Waterford, Virginia. (It used to be called Waterford Vineyards.) Corcoran produces less than 10 different wines right now, focusing on “high quality” and retaining “total control of all aspects of our operation”. The wines are affordable at between $12 and $24, but don’t lack in taste (from what we could tell at the festival).
The vineyard seems to have a good number of events, which are posted on their website. And at just $3 a pop (or free if you buy something) a trip to the tasting room should prove to be a good time. So take a look at Corcoran Vineyards if you are in the area.
More information can be found at the Corcoran Vineyards website. Dezel also has a nice recap of a visit to Corcoran Vineyards with some wonderful photos. It’s a good read. You won’t be sorry.

3 Responses to “VA Wine Festival: Corcoran Vineyards”
I wanted to add that while I don’t remember my 1-5 score for the Corcoran Cab Franc, I do remember liking it. I was *this* close to buying a bottle, but since Virginia vines make such great Cab Franc, by the time we got to the Corcoran booth Kim and I had already picked up 3 bottles of that particular juice from other wineries at the festival.
So by all means… if you are at Corcoran check out the Cab Franc. I think it was up to VA standards and then some.
I don’t think we were swayed by the people at the stand at all! Their Viognier is simply a very ACCESSIBLE white wine. I’d doubt there are many people who would knock it. Can’t wait to open our bottle — Jason, what are you doing later?
Jason — you look really good in this picture!
