We’ve just added a new feature to WineLog, which allows anyone to upload an image to be associated with a wine. We’ll be using the new system to add wine label images to as many wines as we can, and we hope you’ll help us by uploading labels too. We also hope that you’ll upload other photos of yourselves drinking the wine.
Here are some brief instructions for how to upload your own wine photos…
1. From the wine info page (example), click on the “add new image” link below the wine image.
2. Fill out the form. Locate the image to upload on your computer and if applicable give the name and URL for who to credit the photo to. If you get the image from another website, enter it here. If you took the photo yourself, you can put your name and either your WineLog URL or a URL to your outside website. It is VERY important to correctly enter the credit information, as we want to make sure folks get credit for their photos.
If you don’t already have the label on your hard drive, you can find photos using the links below the form. When known, we’ll show a link to the winery’s website as well as a link to search Google images.
3. Click the “upload” button. You will see your image in the list below. All images are approved by WineLog staff, so other users won’t see your images until we’ve gotten around to approving them. Approval usually happens within 24 hours.
4. That’s it! We will choose one of the images uploaded (usually the best label image) to be shown as the “title image” on the wine info page. You can click on the new “images” tab to see all of the other available images.
5. Report bad images and/or credit info. If you see incorrect credit information let us know using the “report” link below the title image. Be sure to specify which image you are reporting and what is wrong. Use the report link to also report offensive images that may have somehow snuck past our filters.
Wine labels have been a frequently requested feature on the site. Labels and photos of the wine can help you identify exactly wha bottle of wine you want to log (”was it the reserve or the special reserve?”). We’re also excited to see photos of our users having fun and enjoying wine. So be sure to upload those too.
And let us know here if you have any questions or ideas for how we can make this and other features better. We always appreciate the input.

One Response to “Wine Labels and Shared Photos at WineLog.net”
I’ve been having a ball uploading new images - but as far as shooting my own pics of the wine labels, I’m a bit stumped.
I’m going to do a little research and a home science experiment about how to get great label shots. Expect a post about my findings in the next week or so…
