After a major house cleaning day, Jason and I decided to put our feet up and enjoy a great bottle of White Bordeaux. We paired it with a dinner of fresh tropical fruits, sliced meat, goat cheese, crackers, macadamia nuts, pecans, smoked almonds…mmmmm. So, I had to ask myself, if there anything better?

The white bordeaux was Barons De Rothschild Reserve Speciale Pauillac 2006 ($11.99, from the Paulliac subregion in Bordeaux). Made from Sauvignon Blanc, the wine features some of the traditional characteristics of the grape - lime, melon, grass - with heightened vanilla and butter flavors. The more White Bordeaux I taste, the more I love it. For those of you who haven’t tried a White Bordeaux, I would generalize the wine by saying it a nice weight and body to it, as compared to the more “thin” style Sauvignon Blanc from Australia and New Zealand.

I’m interested in hear how you WineLoggers would describe the perfect wine evening, so please submit a comment and let me know!

One Response to “Is there anything better?”

On the other hand, you might say that White Bordeaux (or the few we’ve tried) is a crisper Chardonnay.
