Legal Sea FoodsThey just opened up a Legal Sea Foods near us in King of Prussia, PA. I first went to LSF in New Jersey with my friend Chris. The food there is very good. It’s a bit more expensive than a Friday’s or Maggianos, but worth it I think in terms of quality and atmosphere… and wine. (Though Friday’s and Maggianos are both good for their respective purposes.)

One of LSF’s “core values” is to provide a high-quality, affordable wine list. And they do that. Their selection is pretty good, with a number of wines I recognize to be good values. I keep wanting to get the Cloudy Bay Sauvignon off their menu so I can try it again. It also seems that they are charging just a 50% markup or so, much less than the industry standard of 100-200%.

The past two times at LSF, I’ve ordered a bottle of the Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuisse (with different company). I’m giving it 5 stars. Pouilly-Fuisse is a region of France, usually producing Chardonnay-based wines (more info at Wikipedia). IMO, it pairs well with fish, making it a good choice at LSF. I’ve so far enjoyed both of the Pouilly-Fuisse’s I’ve tried, the other being a 2004 Georges Duboeuf Pouilly-Fuisse that I gave 5 stars.

Pouilly-Fuisse is a region I’d like to look into more. Any suggestions?

I’ve also just gotten my hands on a bottle of 2005 Castle Rock Pinot Noir, currently the most popular wine on the site behind the paradoxical Principato Rosato. I’m excited to try the Castle Rock out and see what all the fuss is about. We’ll see.

I also had a little taste of Archetype Vineyards Cabernet-Shiraz out of Barossa, Australia. I thought it was pretty good, but didn’t get enough to get a definitive score. It tasted a like melted milk chocolate. My mother, a vino blanco kind of girl, also enjoyed this red a lot.
