Kim enjoys a glass of red wine in Mexico

Jason and I have returned from our honeymoon and are getting back into the work swing. After filtering through nearly 1,000 emails (mainly having to do with various erectile dysfunction medicines), I thought a post on our all-inclusive resort’s “wine” was in order. (FYI: We stayed at the El Dorado Seaside Suites in Kantenah, Riviera Maya, Mexico. Very romantic and great food!)

The resort’s house wine included three options: red, white, and sparkling. While the resort did have a list of wines available for purchase, Jason and I weren’t willing to pay 4x markup, even if it was our honeymoon. Mango daiquiris and mojitos were fine enough. Sadly of the three options offered, the only one that was semi-drinkable was the sparkling wine.

Roca Vino Tinto 2003

The Red: Roca Exclusivo Vino Tinto 2003 Mendoza, Argentina
A thin ruby-red red wine with light tobacco aromas. I have rated it 2 of 5 stars because after a few sips you’ve basically had all you can stomach. In general, I’m a big fan of Argentinean table wines, so perhaps the intense heat and humidity played a big role in why I didn’t enjoy this simple wine.

Roca Vino Blanco 2004

The White: Roca Exclusivo Vino Blanco 2004 Mendoza, Argentina
Warm weather is the perfect environment for light, summery white wines. Sadly, this wine tasted more like lemon juice than a fruity/sweet white that is generally very enjoyable poolside (or playa-side). While many people (men and women alike) seemed to be enjoying this blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, I myself was only able to partake of a few sips, all in the name of research. 1 of 5 stars.

Unknown Sparkling Wine

The Sparkling: Dubois? (guess we drank to much and forgot!)
We were greeted with several glasses of this light and refreshing sparkling wine upon check-in, and it remained one of my top drink choices throughout the trip. However, remembering what happens when you mix sun and champagne, I avoided the sparkler during the daytime hours. I’ll be contacting the resort to try and get more information about this wine, so check back. (and if anyone else finds anything out, let me know. It was a green bottle with dark green label and the word “DUBOIS” in gold lettering down the neck.) 3 of 5 stars.

Well, that’s it for our recent wine adventures. Unless you include the Lokoya Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder 2002 we received as a wedding present. We won’t be opening that bottle any time soon, though!

Hi Kim,

Congratulations to you two! That resort looks heavenly. Sorry to hear about the house wines. The last cruise I went on I settled for the pretty little drinks with the umbrellas in them also.

Sure wish there was a way we could get back at those darn spammers!

[...] Kim has one. Now here is my sexy wine-guy photo from our honeymoon. We had a great time. Kim recapped the resort’s wine pretty well. In short: the house sparkler was pretty good, red was okay, white was horendous. [...]
