My job requires me to travel sometimes. This year the amount is increasing greatly. I don’t mind. Most of the cities are fun. I am currently in Atlanta. However, this trip has some downsides. For the first 3 nights, I am flying solo. Plus, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Lastly, my friend Eric O’Neill, is hosting a private screening of his movie tomorrow back home, so I can’t make it. If you have seen the previews, Breach is the movie about the Robert Hannsen story. Eric is played by Ryan Phillippe. This is a true story (with some Hollywood creative license taken.) So support my buddy Eric and go see Breach this Friday.

Anyway, since I didn’t feel like sitting by myself in the hotel bar, I stopped at a grocery store and bought a bottle. Instead of one glass for $7, I bought a bottle for $9.50. Why not stay in and watch a great Tennessee vs. UK basketball game.
I forgot my corkscrew (which I usually keep in my luggage), so I limited myself to screw tops. I know some folks swear these are the devil, but I have had some decent wines without corks.

2004 Man Vintners Shiraz – South Africa
The color is very light, lighter than most Shriaz I would say (even though I am looking at it in a rocks glass.) The aroma is perfectly balanced. I could smell this wine all day. Taste wise, it is fruit forward with a nice bit of spice dancing on your tongue. A tad chewy. Overall, I would like to see a bit more fruit, but I do like it. I don’t think I will have trouble finishing this bottle before I leave in a few days.

Be prepared for another post tomorrow as I found a nice wine bar/store within walking distance that I will try to hit for dinner tomorrow night.

One Response to “Traveling”

Sounds like a great last minute grab!

Screw caps do not throw me the least. Part of that may be that I’m a newer consumer and the other ½ would be the quality of wines I have enjoyed from NZ.

I think screw caps are often linked by some to cheap high sugar/ alcohol wine-o wines. Glad to see this image being shattered. On the flip side there are some wines out there that are more than deserving of a fresh cork : )

The clean and pure, more fruit driven wines meant to be consumed young – screw cap or not Dezel will buy and enjoy !

Have a nice trip!
