Some BubblyNew Years Eve will be upon us this weekend. New Years is not just an excuse to go on a diet. It’s also a great excuse for partying and drinking Champagne and other sparkling wines. Although, we’ve never needed an excuse for any of that.

I know most folks already have their wine list planned out, but here are three wines you might want to look into if you don’t. I haven’t drunk any of these wines yet, but they are on my own personal list of sparklers to imbibe this New Years. I’ll be sure to post my reviews after the holiday.

How to Get These Wines
I looked, but couldn’t find any online retailers that would reliably ship overnight. Still, you should be able to find at least one of these wines at your local wine store (let me know how it goes). If not, you can always pick some up for next year.

The Sparklers
Our first sparkler on list is Castell Roig Brut. This is a sparkling wine from Spain that sells for $10 a bottle. Gary Vaynerchuk, of Wine Library TV fame, likes this wine a lot. In his recent video on sparkling wines, he rates the wine 89 points and states that this sparkling wine will be all the rage in 15 years. I say get some now while it’s cheap.

Next up is Jacob’s Creek Chardonnay Pinot Noir Brut Cuvee, which was reviewed by our very own WineForNewbies in a recent article about sparkling wine. At $10 WFN thinks this “party sparkler” is good for the price. Andrew Bell, another one of our writers, has logged the wine with just 2 stars. I’m going to be tasting this wine as a tie breaker to see if this bubbly can be another budget option for casual drinking, big parties, or those nights where one bottle just won’t cut it.

Some “Real” Champagne
Next on the list is a real “Champagne” Champagne. You know… one from Champagne, France. The wine is Pierre Morlet Millesime 1999 and sells for $40 a bottle. This is another wine talked up in Gary V’s sparkler video. He rates it 96 points and states, “I’m completely blown away by the quality of this champagne.” I’m going to look for a bottle of this to have as my expensive champagne on New Years Eve.

So there are three bottles that you might enjoy on New Years. There are many other great sparkling and non-sparkling wines you could be drinking this weekend, from California, more from Champagne, from Italy. For more ideas, see this summary of the recent “Wine Blogging Wednesday” on Sparkling Wines. There are a lot of great ideas from some great bloggers in there.

Have a fun weekend. Be safe. And let us know what you end up drinking.
