I wanted to mention, in passing, that an odd sort of event happened tonight. Several of us “geeky types” converged on “Capozzi Island” in “Second Life” for a “Wine 2.0″ “discussion.”
Try to imagine a bunch of semi-domesticated house apes all suddenly born into 20-something bodies, with the ability to kinda walk and kinda fly and kinda communicate, but perhaps not the ability to dress themselves nor to avoid obstacles… and everyone in the discussion is a bit buzzed on some form of Grenache based wine… mmmmm, Grenache… In the course of this discussion I got shoved off a cliff (by accident, I’m pretty sure) but I got to interact with some cool “wine blog personalities” that you probably know by their blogs: Tim at Winecast, Josh at Pinotblogger, Lenn at Lenndevours, just to name a few.
And the experience was like losing my virginity: interesting… fun… but very very strange…
There was good engaging discussion in furious vibrating sort of way (I can’t really describe it, but it was hilarious.) What is clear is what is not clear. Are we just a bunch of geeks feeding off each other? Or is what we are doing with our winery blogs and wine community sites (like this one!) meaningful to the world of wine drinkers?
Time, of course, will tell. But we have it our power to create places in the Web which are easy as email to use, and so fun and interesting that people want to use them, and keep using them. Just like Amazon and books: these people liked this wine, and you can read why they did.
If you are reading these words, you are already along for the wine, er, ride. So, bring a friend and show them around…

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I intentionally pushed you off the cliff into the water. To may dismay, you did not drown.
Fortunately, the paparazzi at our joyous gathering did not catch me in the act. They did, however, capture our mutual losing of virginity: http://winecast.net/2006/11/30/wine-20-meetup-a-success/
uh huh. Couldnt-keep-his-pants-on-guy did it on purpose. Right!
I hadn’t yet tried jumping off a cliff, so I suppose I should thank you for popping my…, er, helping me lose that virginity as well.

[...] Like El Jefe blogged last night, getting adjusted to this brave new world is a bit of a challenge for us aging Baby Boomers but I still think this is the way the internet will be in just a few years. Instead of clicking links and visiting websites, we”ll be wandering around and interacting with other users which presents some interesting marketing issues. More on that in another post over the weekend. [...]
I meant to attend this event, but completely forgot. D’oh!!!!!
Hopefully there will be another event in the not-too-distant future and my memory will serve me better.
