We’ll be posting a lot over the coming days about our trip to San Francisco last week. We have a lot to process. Both Kim and I have nearly doubled our wine logs based on all the drinking tasting we did.
On Friday, we visited the Diablo Grande “wine gallery” (a tasting room for that winery’s wines) and a cool little place called VinoVenue. VinoVenue is a wine bar/retailer with those nifty machines that let you purchase tastes in 1oz shots. In just an hour, our group had tried no less than 15 bottles of wine. Todd, who was running shop that day, also let us try some wines which weren’t on the floor yet. We’ll cover Vino Venue more in a later post, but it’s pretty obvious to us that these types of places will be springing up all over the place.
Kim and I didn’t get tickets in time to take the Wine Train, so we ended up renting a car and puttering around Napa and Sonoma ourselves. We had to take a couple breaks in our tasting to make sure I was good to drive, but I think we had more fun than we would have on the train. Since we had just one day to visit, it was nice to be able to go to the wineries we were most excited about.
UPDATE: Our very own Winesmith is out in Napa country with his wife for phase 2 of their honeymoon. I think we’ll be able to get them on a train tomorrow or Wednesday. And after speaking with Erica (a representative for the Wine Train), I’m really jealous of them. Erica made it sound so fun. Look for an update from Winesmith regarding the Wine Train sometime after he gets back.
Look for some more details on our tastings, our time at VinoVenue, and our trip through Napa and Sonoma later this week.

Hi Jason
I noticed both yours and Kim’s list have grown alot, have you drunk all those bottles or are they a supply to last a while? Started to work on my second posting and is looking good…..going to be on sparkling wines for Christmas and the New Year…..Also looking to do a little bit on East European wines shortly too..enjoy the wines look forward to your reviews of them, at least another two years before I get back to the States to pickup a few more bottles of US wines that you never get here……
Jason forgot to post this but if you are down in St Petersburg, Fl. anytime then it might also be worth popping along to this place similar to VinoVenue I guess. Its called Tastings…..

Andrew, most of the wines we logged were wines that we just tasted. Either at a winery or Vino Venue. Some were wines we tried at dinner. We actually only purchased about 3 bottles during our trip.
I view a “wine log” as more than a cellar tracker. It’s really a history of our wine experience. I try to put an entry in there any time I even sip a new wine.
I still have to transcribe some of the notes I took during the tastings.
[...] I just got back from San Francisco (again) where I attended Wine 2.0, a meet-and-greet/wine tasting setup by the folks at RadCru. It was a great event, well worth the long flight out to the west coast. I was able to meet many of the folks we’re partnering with and a couple of our new blog authors who should be posting soon. Below is a quick recap of just some of the interesting people I talked with at the event. [...]
